I don’t seek gratitude,
I’ve no use for platitudes,
I only did I was told,
From the moment I enrolled.
No need for medals or awards,
The modest financial rewards,
I’ve no material desires.
Not in this life or the next.
I’ve done TV interviews,
I’ve been featured on the news,
Just for doing as any man would,
For acting the best I could.
So no false homages to me,
I’m no media deity,
Does the devil wait patiently?
Not in this life or the next.
She will never be replaced,
Through meaningless embrace.
In my search for serenity,
I seem to only find pity.
No return to action please,
There’s noone left to appease,
Can I finally stand at ease?
Not in this life or the next.
Not in this life.
